Description:This novella tells of an incident during the Japanese Occupation Period when an aboriginal girl, Sayon Hayon from the “Liyu border community” in Suō Town, Taihoku Prefecture, was in an escort accompanying a Japanese teacher who was going to join the military. Unfortunately, she fell into the river and died but her misfortune was interpreted as a “patriotic act.” In 1958 Zhou Jinbo adapted the novella to the screen with the title Sharong. Over the years the story has changed several times but is still popular among the public. The 2007 film Dewdrop brought Suō Town and Sayon’s Bell once more before the camera but the Sayon’s Bell that was a representative piece of the “Kōmin literature” during the Japanese Occupation Period was known by very few people. The Museum holds the earliest edition, which is a witness to the times.

其他說明:本書為一中篇小說,內容敘寫日治時期台北州蘇澳郡「利與邊社」少女莎秧.哈秧,為護送日人教師入伍,不幸掉落溪流身亡的故事。本書出版於厲行「皇民化」的日治末期,少女遇難被詮釋為「愛國之舉」。1958年周金波曾將《莎秧的鐘》改編為劇本,拍製成電影《莎蓉》;如今「莎秧的鐘」的故事幾經演化,仍在民間流傳,2007年的電影「練習曲」即曾以蘇澳「莎秧之鐘」入鏡,然而,做為日治時期「皇民文學」代表作之一的《莎秧的鐘》原著卻少有人知,本館典藏最初版本,做為時代之見證。
